Swansea Storm their way to a Treble Winning Season

Swansea Storm Basketball Club have written themselves into the record books by winning all three domestic Welsh basketball titles in a season that has seen them go undefeated in all competitions, with a winning record of 23-0.

At the end of April, Swansea Storm were crowned South Wales League champions with an impressive record of 12 wins and no losses.

This is the first league title that a Swansea-based basketball team has won in over 20 years. The last league title was won by Swansea Scimitar led by Great Britain and Welsh international Phil Davies.

On May 9, Swansea Storm lifted the League Cup with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over the Cardiff Warriors in a match that saw the Storm trailing by 22 points with only eight minutes remaining in the game.

Spurred on by an excellent shooting performance by Iranian international Firooz Dehdarvand, Swansea Storm won 97-94 to lift their second piece of silverware for the season.

The third and final trophy was won on May 23 at Glyndwr University, Wrexham, where Swansea played the top four teams in the North Wales League.

They won all four matches to claim the prestigious Terry Price Playoff Cup.

Swansea's Welsh international point guard Matt Daw was named most valuable player of the tournament for his impressive scoring and defensive performance.

Club director Gavin Williams said: "Winning all three domestic honours is something that has not been achieved before at any level of senior men's Welsh basketball, and to do so without losing a single game is a remarkable achievement.

"I'd like to thank our head coach Gavin Lewis, chairman Dan Garlick and all our volunteer coaches and supporters who have helped us during the year," he added.

"Trying to match this achievement next year is going to be a difficult task, but the club are already taking positive steps by signing our first American import player, who will arrive in Swansea in September.

"As well as playing for the Storm, he will also be actively involved with coaching in secondary and primary schools throughout Swansea to help raise the profile of the sport and our club."
